چکیده

Patient B is a 98 year old male, referred for urgent outpatient upper gastrointestinal endoscopy because of a low haemoglobin of 6.0 gm/dL and current complaints of haemetemesis and malaena. He had received several transfusions of blood over the past few months. This patient has no history of any stigmata of liver disease. Argon Plasma Coagulation is the safe and accepted first line of treatment in some gastrointestinal vascular disorders like the ones found in Patient B. However this treatment was not only unhelpful in Patient A, but it increased the intensity of bleeding (figure 2).

In Vitro and in Vivo studies of the Effects of Cold Argon Plasma on Decreasing the Coagulation Time

Introduction Cold plasma is a self-sterilized, painless, and non-contact method in surgeries. These properties allow it to be applied to the living tissues and heat-sensitive parts. The aim of this study was to design a new cold plasma producer device and evaluate the effects of cold argon plasma on decreasing the coagulation time of blood drop in vitro and that of the injured liver blood in vi...

Gastric Hemangioma Treated with Argon Plasma Coagulation in a Newborn Infant

Gastric hemangioma in the neonatal period is a very rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a case of hemangioma limited to the gastric cavity in a 10-day-old infant. A huge, erythematous mass with bleeding was observed on the lesser curvature side of the upper part of the stomach. Surgical resection was ruled out because the location of the lesion was too close to the gastroe...

Successful Treatment of Severe Spontaneous Periampullary Bleeding with Argon Plasma Coagulation

Periampullary bleeding is an uncommon cause of upper gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage, which is typically iatrogenic in origin occurring as the result of endoscopic intervention of the papilla. Spontaneous, non-iatrogenic periampullary bleeding is extraordinarily rare with only a few cases reported in the literature to date. Vascular malformations, including angiodysplasia and Dieulafoy's lesio...

Sclerotherapy for the Treatment of Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia in Case of Contraindications to Argon Plasma Coagulation

Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) is a rare cause of chronic gastro-intestinal hemorrhage. GAVE can be observed in patients with cirrhosis and it is involved in several cases of persistent anemia, sometimes requiring blood transfusions due to the severity of anemia. Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) has been proven to be effective and safe in the treatment of GAVE, the only contraindications ...

Endobronchial argon plasma coagulation for treatment of Dieulafoy disease.

Dieulafoy disease of the bronchus is a rare condition. A 28-y-old male patient with recurrent exacerbations of hemoptysis (producing up to 300 mL) over the previous 4 y was admitted to our hospital following an acute episode. A 3-mm sessile lesion covered with somewhat ulcerated smooth mucosa was detected at the distal end of the left main bronchus, at the entrance to the upper lobe bronchus. B...
